Property Tax Increase Haulted

Let’s kick our farmers in the backside again.  As if our economy is not tough enough, we actually considered an increase in the property tax that would be assessed to farmers in the State of Missouri. Fortunately, the MO State Legislature had enough sense to stop it, at least for now.

We already have a weird system in Missouri for taxing farms anyway. We take into account the productive value of the land. So, if you happen to be doing OK on your farm, based upon the formula, you would get hammered harder than the old boy who hasn’t brush hogged his field in years.

The House voted 143-11 to block the bill. It’s dead for now, but I guarantee it will be back!  While you are waiting, you need to do two things:  sell your fertile land to some developer, who will build cheap houses on it, and write a thank  you letter to the State Tax Commission for proposing the stupid idea in the first place.

I’m on a role this week,

Ozark Snow Is Not As Heavy

Ozark snow is not as heavy as anticipated. The kind folks in Texas got part of the energy of the storm, in the form of thunderstorms. So, we should fend well in most of Missouri.

Our Ozarks neighbors have taken the blunt of the storm. The governor of Arkansas has declared an emergency for the state. So, our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Arkansas. The ice and sleet have been a bigger issue there.

Hang in there people of the Ozarks! It won’t be long til Spring.
